About

Kristjan Ruus in his studio.

Kristjan Ruus is an Estonian film composer and music producer based in Tallinn. His work and collaborations have taken him across Europe and to the US.

His process begins before a note is written: spending time inside a film's world, its period and its characters, and asking what that world should sound like. Themes often begin at the piano. From there, he experiments with sounds and palettes, using whatever the story needs – found sounds and textures, synths, orchestra, 808s or simply restraint.

Before focusing fully on composing and music production, Kristjan worked extensively in branded content, with work for international brands including BMW, MINI and Hennessy, as well as some of Estonia's best-known brands, including Kalev and Balbiino.
